Whether you are arriving or leaving Mauritius, or moving within the island, moving experts are here to assist you. AGS, a French company present in more than 160 countries around the world, shares the steps for a successful relocation.
1. Choosing a relocation company
The choice of competent professionals helps to avoid unpleasant surprises, which can result in additional costs linked to breakages, losses and delivery delays. For an international relocation, it is advisable to choose a mover that has a local branch or partner in both Mauritius and the country of origin or departure. The International Federation of International Movers (FIDI) can provide information on recognised service providers.
2. Estimating the volume of your belongings and getting a quote
A removal consultant will visit your home to estimate the volume to be shipped, draw up a list of items requiring special precautions, identify any difficulties in dismantling and reassembling furniture and observe access to your home. A quote is then shared, specifying the mode of transport, the route, the type of services on departure and arrival and the insurance cover.
3. Preparing your documents
You will be asked to provide a list of your belongings and their value. This is a crucial step to guarantee compensation in the event of loss or damage. As part of an international move, you will need to provide a number of documents in order to facilitate the customs clearance of your personal belongings. Make sure you send them on time to your relocation company to guarantee a smooth move.
4. Packing and collecting your belongings
On D-day, the movers come to your home to prepare and collect your belongings. Good, solid packing ensures that your belongings arrive in perfect condition. The movers take care of everything. However, plan to be present to answer their questions and sign the necessary documents.
5.Transport
Whether it is by land, sea, or air, you will be kept informed about the transportation stages by your consultant, as well as through your online platform. In the case of an international relocation, the moving company will arrange for the customs clearance of your belongings.
6. Unpacking and moving
On the agreed date, your belongings will be delivered, unpacked and arranged in your new residence. In just a few hours, your relocation will be a thing of the past, and you will feel at home again.
