Founded by jewelry designer and art specialist Harriet Batchelor, Oceano proves that Mauritius is a welcoming haven for creatives.

Pearl Jewelry Redefined

Officially founded in 2015, Oceano has always been on a mission to modernize and redefine traditional pearl jewelry with a distinctly Mauritian twist. Harriet’s signature designs complement the ocean-derived gems with bold, sculptural silhouettes and motifs directly sourced from her home island. 

Many of the pieces are sculpted from genuine Mauritian shells and corals found during Harriet’s explorations of her favorite beaches, whether she’s horseback riding along the shore or diving in the waters.

Each piece is carefully handcrafted in the brand’s atelier using high quality, ethically sourced pearls and precious metals. Sterling silver is the foundation of choice for most of the jewelry, though the brand also offers a premium solid 18k gold collection for anyone craving an extra touch of luxury. 

How Harriet Found Her Creative Calling in Mauritius

Oceano can be called a quintessential Mauritian brand today, but in reality it took some time for Harriet to replant her roots. 

The designer spent several years away from the island, first studying art in Paris, then working in art restoration in Italy, and finally establishing Oceano in Kenya. She valued her time in these cultural hubs immensely, but felt the idyllic splendor of Mauritius calling her back. While Harriet’s artistic background also shines through her designs, it’s the Mauritian elements that truly make them stand out. 

She knew that nothing would spark her creativity more than the bright blue Indian Ocean, the white sand, and wild forests that she grew up with. After building up a loyal clientele in Nairobi, she decided to head back home to grow her business by setting up her atelier in the southern part of the island. 

The Pearl of Mauritius

Today, Oceano Pearls has become a premier jewelry destination on the island for locals, expats, and visitors alike. The brand has expanded to have two boutiques, one in Ruisseau Créole, Black River and one at Sunset Boulevard, Grand Baie, in addition to their original atelier in the south and their website, www.oceanopearls.com.
