Relocating to Mauritius with your pets
Move to Mauritius with your pets. Get your import permit to relocate your dog or cat to Mauritius as an expatriate.
Mauritius imposes strict restrictions on the importation of pets. Since Covid-19, they can only travel by cargo plane and no more in the cabin or in the hold.
Please note that there are import restrictions for so-called "dangerous" breeds of dogs, such as Pitt Bulls, Mastiffs, Dobermans, etc.
Import permit
To import a pet to Mauritius, you must first obtain an import permit issued by the Veterinary Department of the Ministry of Agro-Industry. Your application must be submitted at least three months prior to the animal’s planned departure. You will need to fill in a form available on the official website and provide a cover letter, your Mauritius residence permit, a sterilisation certificate (compulsory) and a copy of the vaccination card.
Once your application has been approved, you will receive detailed information on the vaccinations and tests required, as well as specific import procedures.
Mandatory quarantine
On arrival, your pet will be placed in quarantine for five days to one month, depending on the country of origin. You are responsible for the cost of quarantine.
Importing a pet to Mauritius can be a complex process, so it is strongly recommended that you call on the services of a specialist company to assist you.
