October 9th, Wednesday • Conference (FR) Relire Cabon Aujourd'hui about Marcel Cabon at Institut Francais, Rose Hill

Marcel Cabon was a Mauritian writer, journalist, and poet, known for his books Namasté and Brasse-au-Vent. Discover how his work can help us understand the past and present challenges of the country during a conference led by Robert Furlong, president of the fondation Malcolm de Chazal. The conference will be followed by a vernissage of the exhibition: Marcel Cabon, une plume engagée dans la presse and illustrations for the poetry collection Kélibe Kéliba by Siegfried Sammer.

"“Explosive” best describes Sophie and her mother. At 18, Sophie decides to get as far away from her mum as possible, by returning to her mother’s motherland, the island of Mauritius. What she imagines will be a trip to tropical paradise, to explore her roots and meet some ‘shirtless french guys’, gets all too real as she encounters strange characters in her extended family. Cousins too close for comfort, charred skeletons in the closet… She soon discovers below the surface a volcano is waiting to erupt…."
Written and performed by Sophie Joan, an award-winning theatre-maker and comedian from Cape Town, with Mauritian roots.
